Friday Rant: AI Twin

  • Brittany Hardy

For the skimmers:
I’m trying something new around here… Every so often, on a Friday, you’ll get a Friday Marketing Rant. Why? Because the internet is currently overflowing with:
🚩 terrible marketing advice
🚩 misleading shortcuts
🚩 tactics that straight up trick your audience

So consider this my new public service:
Saving you from marketing trends that should crawl into a hole and stay there forever. You’re welcome.

A couple of weeks ago, I sent an email about the AI twin trend, and well... you guys liked it lol. As in, you didn't like the trend, but you liked my message ABOUT the trend.
My inbox. Was. FLOODED.

So many of you said:

ā€œYes! This! I agree! Please talk about this more!ā€

So, here it is!

So ya, Tuesday night... headache and all, I’m scrolling Facebook (yes, I still use FB LOL), minding my business trying to distract myself from the 18 tabs open on my computer screaming at me to finish the project before I have to make dinner for the kids, but...

A post with an ā€œAI avatarā€ that looks like a model on vacation while the real person is probably in sweatpants watching Netflix pops up in one of the Women Entrepreneur groups I am in.

The post is below (which got an INSTANT eye roll from me).

And every time someone asked:
ā€œWhat tool did you use?ā€
She replied…
ā€œSure babe, I’ll DM you šŸ’‹ā€

āŒ Nope.
No thank you. Do not ā€œDM me babe.ā€
Just tell the class, Susan.
(We’re calling her Susan now.)

If it’s not a sneaky sales pitch…
why are we whispering?
Just put the tool in the post and gooooo. šŸ™ƒAnyway… I couldn’t help myself.
Into the comments I went.

šŸ‘‡ Now here’s where the rant officially begins…

The comments are mixed if you look at the images above.

I would say half of them are people asking what tool it is. I believe these people are still under the impression that this is going to "help" their business.

"Just create an AI version of yourself, and you'll be able to show up on every platform simultaneously, you make more money!" - some random marketing "guru."

But rather than just say the tool, she offers to dm them.

MMMMk. Red flag.

Why do people fall for this crap?

The other half of people, well they are on my side...

Which is, that this is absolutely not going to help your business AT ALL. It's actually just going to erode trust, and I'm pretty sure that's not the result we're after here.

Look - AI is incredible.
I use it daily.
Heck, this email probably high-fived an AI before hitting your inbox.

AI that helps my brain work faster? YES.
AI that fixes typos? Also yes.

But AI that creates a more perfect version of my literal FACE and BODY?

That’s where I hit the brakes so hard the seatbelt locks.

Here’s why:

  1. It’s a silent new beauty standard
We already spend enough energy battling perfection online.
Now we’re literally generating upgraded avatars of ourselves? I have 4 kids, 3 of them girls, and 2 of those girls at a very vulnerable age for said beauty standards. I just don't like it. It makes them feel like garbage when everyone looks perfect and no matter how many times I tell them it's fake, it's becoming really hard to distinguish real from not real.

  2. It chips away at real trust
    If someone sees ā€œAI Brittanyā€ in Greece…
    and then meets ā€œActual Brittanyā€ on Zoom…
do they think I lied? Catfished? Time-traveled??

  3. You lose control of your likeness
    Once those assets exist…
ANYONE (including the AI) can make ā€œyouā€ do or say anything.
    And that’s… terrifying.
We already have our faces (photo and video) all over social media. People create fake videos of celebrities doing things or saying things they didn't. Now imagine just making it even easier for that to happen to yourself. Why? It's not worth it.

  4. It swaps connection for convenience
We need real humans interacting with real humans.
A perfect digital clone can’t giggle-snort or spill coffee mid-reel.
(Which is a shame, because I do that really well.)

The point really is... it makes you less human, and people do business with people. That's really it.

My Marketing Prediction for 2026
Ok I admit this is more of a hope than a prediction, but I'm putting it out to the universe!

The pendulum is going to swing HARD back toward:

  • Genuine content

  • Imperfect visuals

  • Real personality

  • Real presence

Because being human will soon be a differentiator.

AI is a brilliant tool.
But it cannot replace your you-ness... your energy, your humour, your wrinkles earned from smiling at your own jokes.

So yeah…
I’ll keep using AI for ideas and proofreading…
but I’m not outsourcing my face, voice, or identity.

Humans buy from humans.
Let’s not automate ourselves out of the experience.

Rant over. 😌

-Brittany

PS: Maybe it (AI garbage) gets worse before it gets better. But I for one will choose to be part of the solution (no AI avatar) and not part of the problem. Maybe you will join me ;)
