2019 Port Moody Ribfest recap
Brought to you by Empty Desk Solutions
Over here at Empty Desk Solutions, we are always looking for fun and unique ways to give back to the community. As a small local business, we aren’t always able to donate money so we contribute by donating time and services to causes we care about. This year we were fortunate to sponsor Port Moody Ribfest’s social media again!
Port Moody Ribfest is a 3-day rib festival, with rib trucks (even a vegan option), live music and entertainment, a kids fun zone, a beer garden (don’t forget the family friendly beer garden) and so much more!
The event is put on by The Rotary Club of Port Moody. The Rotary Club of Port Moody is composed of a manifold of individuals who provide a diverse representation of their local community’s business owners, executives, managers, political leaders, and professionals. The Rotary Club of Port Moody sponsors local charitable initiatives, along with some of the world’s largest youth exchanges, educational exchanges, and scholarship programs.
2019 Port Moody Ribfest proceeds
All proceeds from Port Moody Ribfest go directly back into the community. The Rotary Club of Port Moody works tirelessly to try and raise upwards of $50,000 annually for the numerous community programs that the Club supports. These community programs and organizations include:

The total proceeds earned at the 2019 Port Moody Ribfest were over 100K!
This is a victory for The Port Moody Rotary Club, all of the sponsors who make the Port Moody Ribfest possible, and all of the volunteers involved with the event.
Did you know to put on this event it takes more than 600 volunteers to pull it off? Wowzas!
The success of the 2019 Port Moody Ribfest is an inspiration to continue to increase the profits raised by the event and perhaps the charitable organizations able to benefit in years to come.
Total event attendance & the impact of social media
Throwing a successful city wide event means trying to balance a hundred and one moving parts. In today’s world, one of those parts is social media marketing. Social media marketing is a crucial component of event marketing and simply cannot be compromised. It is an extremely effective way of spreading awareness and excitement for an event.
For the past 3 years, Empty Desk Solutions (EDS) has been able to support the Port Moody Rotary Club by providing our expertise and services in this area for the Port Moody Ribfest. Social media marketing not only creates awareness and hype for an event, but it also allows you to strategically track the success of your marketing efforts. It provides a way for you to interact with and gain an understanding of the online community interested in attending your event, and the size of that community.
The best part?
You can improve on your efforts year after year by using the data available to you from the social media platforms after you wrap up your event.
This year EDS’s efforts were a humbling success, as exemplified by the growth in the total reach (how many people were exposed to the social media messaging throughout the campaign) or in other words, the amount of people who came across Port Moody Ribfest’s social media channels, and their online communities.
In social media marketing, reach and engagement are incredibly useful tools for developing an understanding of the demographic, size and interests of the people who are taking an interest in attending your event. Engagement measures the amount of interaction people make online with your social media content. Check out the image above, you can see an increase in the overall audience (page likes, instagram and twitter followers), and you can also see the massive increase in engagement over the previous year.
To give a more intimate look and understanding, on Facebook alone EDS was able to extend the reach of Port Moody Ribfest’s page to 312.7k. And check out those page impressions, over half a million impressions?! This is all with a very limited advertising budget to boost ONE strategic post in conjunction with the content strategy that takes place months leading up to the event.
Not only was the reach impressive, but the engagement on the posts soared upwards from years prior. There were over 16,000 users on Facebook that engaged with the content. We are very proud of these results.
So, what tangible results can we associate with these social media analytics in terms of the actual success of the event?
Well. In recent years 40,000 people have attended the festival over the course of the weekend, which is a number greater than the entire population of Port Moody.
We think this speaks for itself.
This year, there were approximately 50,000 people in attendance – we are so proud of being able to contribute to this!
That’s a lot of rib and beer loving peeps.
The bottom line here?
The more locals we can inspire to attend, the more proceeds will be raised from the event, resulting in more we (The Rotary) can give back to the community, and the programs and charitable organizations that directly benefit.

☞ Time: Creating content takes time, and you don’t have any more time than the rest of us.
☞ Value: You know that top-of-mind branding is key in today’s social media crazed world, but you don’t want to spend insane amounts of money to achieve it.
☞ Cost: You know that content services can cost thousands of dollars per month but can’t afford that.
☞ Effort: You know that you would love to ‘set it and forget it’ with your social media content, (i.e. you don’t want to log in every day to post something and spend countless hours surfing for ideas of content to post).
