It’s that time of year again! Everyone is gearing up for the holiday season, and many of us are gearing up to help those in need 🙂 We often get caught up in running around making the holidays bright for our own families and forget just how rewarding it is to give back to our community. Your act can be small, or it can be huge, but what matters is that you put in the time to volunteer, or perhaps the money to donate to those who really could use it.
This year, two Dominion Lending Centres franchises are once again teaming up to help those in Vancouver DTES (downtown east side). They bring healthy lunches to those who are hungry, and the best part… the brown paper bags have been hand decorated by elementary school kids. Those in receipt of the lunches often say this is the absolute best part and it warms their heart potentially even more than the food we are providing to them.
I can’t describe the feeling of helping out in the past with this event, because as rewarding as it is to be a part of, you really can’t quite grasp the emotion until you come along yourself and witness the impact one simple lunch can have in someone’s day.
In addition to the lunch, the groups collect warm clothing, jackets, and blankets leading up to the event and put it all out on tables for the homeless to take on the day. Many of these people are not just hungry, but they are also cold! Donating your winter jacket or an old blanket (or maybe even a new one!!) is so simple and it can make more of an impact than you realize.
Event Details for this year:
Date: November 14th 2015
How you can help: The team is still in need of warm clothes, jacket, and blankets. If you can donate any items, please email firstname.lastname@example.org in the Tri Cities, or email@example.com in the Vancouver area.
